WORK SPACES & STUDIOS

The Vrije Academie, Work Space for the Arts, offers artists, regardless of their previous education, the facilities and coaching to further develop their artistic talent and work. The communal work spaces and studios are the beating heart of the Vrije Academie and are accessible to participants every day of the week. Here, they are free to work on their art while experienced artists offer technical advice and artistic coaching with regards to the participant’s artistic development. These artistic coaches are there to stimulate them to examine their own visual vocabulary and to encourage them to experiment with all kinds of art disciplines. To give this experimentation an extra boost, the Vrije Academie invites well-known artists to give workshops and Kick-Offs. On a regular basis, the Vrije Academie coaches will discuss the individual development of the participant’s work. The Studium Generale and the accom-panying programme of the exhibition space Gemak encourages reflection on art and society in a more general sense.

How do I become a participant?

WORKSHOPS & KICK-OFF PROGRAMME

The Vrije Academie offers a varied programme of Workshops and Kick-Offs. The weekly workshops on Tuesday are mostly geared towards mastering and developing a certain technique. Kick-Offs are two-day programmes that are led by well-known, enthusing artists. 

PROJECT

The Vrije Academie wishes to encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience between participants and artists from ‘the outside world’. We strive to stimulate a climate of research, not only by offering Workshops and Kick-Offs, but also by opening up our work space facilities to the development of unique art projects. To this end, the Vrije Academie has a Project Space available, at a favourable rate, for artists with interesting proposals.
