An important part of the Vrije Academie’s philosophy is to encourage, research and stimulate interactive, dynamic and inspiring relationships between art and society. The Artist-in-Residence programme is very much in sync with this philosophy. The Vrije Academie invites both domestic and foreign artists to work on their own (research) projects. Our intention is to give our participants an opportunity to get acquainted with the professional practices of well-established artists. Participants are allowed to look ‘behind the scenes’ while the guest artist is at work, thus creating the conditions for an exchange of information and knowledge between guest artist and participant. The Vrije Academie has already proven to be an inspiring environment for Artists-in-Residence who, in turn, have and will continue to inspire the Vrije Academie's participants.
